Special Saturday Event To Encourage Shopping and Dining in Shorewood

The Shorewood Business Improvement District is pleased to stage its second Streetscape Saturday on May 17. This day-long event throughout the business district along Oakland Ave. and Capitol Dr. will put a new spin on shopping and dining in Shorewood. “Streetscape Saturdays” have been designed to attract customers to the Shorewood business district during its streetscaping project. Shop Shorewood: Spend the Day is the motto for buying locally and making sure area businesses not only survive, but thrive, this season.

MAY 17 EVENT ATTRACTIONS

Businesses will stage sidewalk sales and offer a variety of special in-store promotions along with complimentary giveaways. Plus, shoppers can pick up a special Streetscape Saturdays’ pin at any participating business to wear during the day, with the hopes of being selected by a “mystery shopper” to receive a gift certificate to one of Shorewood’s stores (“wear your pin and you could win!”). In addition:

- Northshore Bank will be giving away treats for kids and adults can register to win special prizes from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at both of their Shorewood locations (3970 and 4414 N. Oakland Ave.).

- The Establishment at 4503 N. Oakland Ave. will be offering $1 per minute chair massages and complimentary cookies and baked goods. Plus, FREE facepainting from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and a Shorewood Appreciation Sale on select Aveda products.

- Kids will love the bouncy Moonwalk in front of the Sprint store at 4144 N. Oakland Ave. from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

- Oakcrest Tavern at 4022 N. Oakland Ave. is celebrating its one-year anniversary with dining specials and free entertainment from juggler Keith Armstrong and balloon art from Jeff Biskowitz. FREE entertainment in the evening with the Sawdust Symphony at 9:30 p.m. Plus, raffle and drink specials!

- Supercuts, 3551 N. Oakland Ave. offers complimentary face painting from 12-2 p.m.

- National DPW Week: May 18-24. Honor the staff at Shorewood’s Department of Public Works (DPW). Free tours of the DPW facility, 3801 N. Morris Blvd., from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Plus, stop by their booth on Oakland Ave. for free giveaways and check out their display of equipment.

The final Streetscape Saturday will be held on June 21. Get ready for summer with a cookout from Nehring’s Sendik’s on Oakland, 4027 N. Oakland Ave. The weather should be perfect for many sidewalk sales and strolling entertainers. More details will be posted on the Shorewood Business Improvement District website at www.shorewoodwi.com.

The Village of Shorewood initiated its streetscaping project last fall to include all of Oakland Ave. (from Edgewood Ave. at Shorewood’s southern border to Glendale Ave. at the north boundary). Many communities and neighborhoods have reported that streetscape projects jump-start business traffic and energize economic development opportunities. It is anticipated that Shorewood will be no exception! Later this summer, the business district will experience the benefits of improved street lighting, enhanced crosswalk safety features, new benches, planters, and trash receptacles, and landscaping beautification. Way-finding signs/kiosks and public art are being discussed for the future. After the streetscaping project is completed, Shorewood’s new “look” will be unveiled in late summer.
